Featured Zru Instrument: The Zrulophone

Pictured here is the “zrulophone” featured on the Zru Vogue song “Japanese Schoolgirl Mapping Device” from the album
Survival of the Cutest.
Currently, “Japanese Schoolgirl Mapping Device” is the top downloaded Zru Vogue song from the
iTunes Music Store (also available from
cdbaby.com, where you can listen to a 2-minute sample).
Rick plays the zrulophone on the recording (while I’m playing a miked-unplugged Fender strat). He plays it amazingly well, actually. It’s just what the song needed. Check out the ascending riff under the chorus!
Rick acquired the toy xylophone while working at a toy store in the early 1980’s. It’s a freakin’ classic, yep it is. Your assignment: listen to “Japanese Schoolgirl Mapping Device” and dig on the groovin’ zrulophone. It may be a toy instrument, but it doesn’t know that.
The Future is Zru

Who knows what the future holds for us? The Zru knows. Dig it.
