After One AM is the sixth solo album from Andrew Jackson, alternative singer-songwriter. Jackson wrote all the songs that comprise After One AM in one week during the summer of 2007, and recorded them weekends over the next two months. The album was released via the iTunes Store in January 2008 and the CD is available from CD Baby.
This 14-song suite is profound in its direct simplicity; personal yet universal. Jackson speaks from the heart and plays music for the soul.
All songs are performed, recorded, and produced by Andrew Lawrence Jackson with Rick Cuevas. Copyright 2007 Andrew L. Jackson.
a message from andrew
This album was written while on a vacation of several weeks from work, when I started doing a lot of writing every day. After a couple weeks, I picked up my guitar and soon I had 14 new songs. So I decided to record them all together as one song suite, since they all seemed to go together well.
What resulted — an album I called After One AM — is a snapshot of my emotional, psychological, and artistic state at that time. I spent a few hours each weekend in September through early November recording all the songs in Rick Cuevas's recording studio (with Rick contributing his skills as a musician as well as recording engineer).
At the time, I'd gone through some sort of personal catharsis, during which I felt the need to stop "promoting" my music. I find it hard to explain why, but I essentially stopped updating my website, stopped sending out e-mails about my music, and stopped doing blog posts. I just had to stop. Meanwhile, I continued to write regularly, making it a point to write every day as much as possible. I also began learning more about digital audio recording, and as a creative exercise I recorded an eclectic mix of cover songs in my home studio (many of these songs became the basis for the album "Disintegrated Hits").
In December 2007, Rick helped me produce the finished CD of "After One AM" and I eventually got them to CD Baby in January 2008. Early in 2008 I started work on a music video for the song "I Hope We'll Be All Right." Naturally, it will be cinematic and absurdist. The project was on hiatus for a few months, but as of September 2008 we're now back on track to complete it by the end of October.
